Pull up a chair. You’re always welcome here at Finke Farms.
Maybe the fire’s crackling. Maybe the cows are lowing in the distance as the sun slips behind the barn. But no matter when you visit, there's always a story to be told and a lesson to be shared. Today, it's about what it really means to raise cattle here—and why it’s more than just a job. It’s a way of life, four generations strong.
Long before tractors had GPS and feed came in bulk, Great-Grandpa Finke started something special. With a small herd of cattle, some worn boots, and a whole lot of heart, he built the first fences and broke the first ground that would become Finke Farms. He didn’t have fancy tools, but he had grit—and a deep respect for the land and animals he cared for.
He used to say, “Take care of the land, and the land will take care of you.” That’s a phrase we still live by.
When you grow up on a cattle farm, your classroom looks a little different. It might be a pasture at sunrise or a hay barn in the middle of winter. Kids on Finke Farms don’t just learn how to tie their shoes—they learn how to bottle-feed a calf, patch a fence, and tell the difference between a healthy cow and one that needs a little extra care.
We don’t just teach chores—we teach responsibility, patience, and kindness. And yes, we also teach how to shovel manure. (Every farm kid knows: it builds character.)
Each cow here has a job, a personality, and a name (though sometimes we run out and have to get creative). We watch over them from the moment they’re born. Some calves need help taking their first steps. Some need extra milk. And some—well, some are a little feistier than others. But each one matters.
Our cattle are raised with care. They roam on open pastures, eat well, and live in a way that’s as close to nature as possible. We believe animals raised with respect give back the best in return.
Now, don’t get us wrong—we love a good tradition. But we also love a good cattle scale that sends weights right to our phones. Over the years, we’ve found a balance between old-school know-how and new technology. That means healthier animals, smarter feeding, and more time to spend with family—both human and hoofed.
Raising cattle at Finke Farms isn’t just what we do. It’s who we are. It teaches us how to care deeply, work hard, and never give up when the weather (or the cows) don’t cooperate.
When kids grow up watching calves take their first steps, helping neighbors haul hay, and listening to grandpa tell stories by the fire, they grow up with roots. Deep roots. The kind that remind them they belong to something bigger than themselves.
Maybe you’ve visited us before. Maybe this is your first time hearing about Finke Farms. Either way, there’s a seat saved for you. We’re proud to share our story, our land, and our love for raising cattle with you.
Because when you're here, you're family—and that’s the Finke Farms way.
Did you know?
A baby cow is called a calf.
Cows eat a mix of hay, grasses, and special grain to stay healthy.
Farmers use tools like ear tags to keep track of each animal’s health and age.
It takes hard work every day to care for a cow—from feeding and brushing to checking water troughs and fences.
Try this!
Next time you drive by a pasture, look for:
A mama cow and her baby
A cow laying down and chewing (that’s called "chewing the cud!")
A water tank or feeder
Learning about cattle farming means learning about nature, hard work, and kindness. And those are things anyone—big or small—can be proud to know.
